Antonio Banderas 'surrounded by nature' in 'magical' Surrey home
Hollywood
superstar Antonio Banderas has revealed his happiness at living in
"magical" Surrey.The actor, 55, and girlfriend Nicole Kimpel, 36,
moved to a modern £2.4m five-bedroom Huf Haus in Cobham last year. Speaking to the Sunday Times,
the Spanish-born Mask of Zorro star and his investment adviser partner appear
to be settling in.
He
said: “I find Surrey magical. I am not a party person anymore, so I have the
space and peace to write and really get inside my own head - I am working on
several scripts.“I go cycling in the woods and everyone in Cobham, Weybridge and Esher is incredibly friendly. “Above all, I am
surrounded by nature. I love watching the deer and foxes that come to my
garden.” The Huf Haus brand prides itself on eco-friendly designs and a
symbiosis with nature. There are only around 200 such homes in the country and
Banderas seems to be a fan.“All this wood and glass, it is a beautiful
concept,” he said.“I have owned a lot of houses, with many types of
architecture, but I think this is my favourite so far. “It is incredible, so
easy to live in. And when the afternoon sunshine comes in through the glass, it
lights up like a diamond.”
The
couple were alerted to the property by a source close to home, as the
Dutch-German Miss Kimpel explained. “My father had two Huf houses when I was
growing up,” she said.“In fact he found this for us, as he thought we would
love it.“I have moved home about 26 times, and until recently was living in
Switzerland, so I am used to setting up anywhere, especially as I work for
myself.”
The
pair bought the three-storey house - which boasts a sauna, gym and cinema room
- furnished, but not all of the fixtures have appealed to Banderas. “Some
things I will be burning in the back garden,” he said.“This place is going to
evolve slowly, as we choose furniture together. We have already bought a
Banksy.”
As
well as appearing in films, Banderas plans to launch a clothing range and is
studying fashion at Central Saint Martin’s College in London. The pair aim to
stay in Surrey for at least five years .In September last year, Banderas was
spotted buying bicycles and accessories at
the independent WA Cycle Shop in Hersham.Damian
Thompson, owner of shop, said at the time: “He was a fantastic person,
straightforward and down to earth, and his girlfriend seemed lovely. They were
just normal people.”
Last
year Banderas starred in The 33 - the story of 33 miners trapped inside the San
Jose Mine in Chile for more than two months - which is now due for release on
DVD:
